Baseball Recap: Mt. Whitney Takes a Loss

Mt. Whitney was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Centennial Golden Hawks. The Pioneers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Golden Hawks from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Damian Garcia spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mt. Whitney saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Genaro Villarreal, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Mt. Whitney's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Centennial, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Whitney will venture away from home to face off against Redwood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Centennial, they will head out to challenge Liberty at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
