Basketball Game Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. Harlingen Cardinals

The Los Fresnos Falcons will challenge the Harlingen Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Los Fresnos will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, Los Fresnos humbled Veterans Memorial with a 75-47 victory. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Gio Galvan was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. He has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Mcchesney, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 16 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Harlingen was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 67-61 to Hanna. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cardinals came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 475th).

Los Fresnos is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. As for Harlingen, their defeat dropped their record down to 24-6.

Los Fresnos didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Harlingen in their previous meeting on January 14th, but they still walked away with a 76-70 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Los Fresnos since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
