Baseball Recap: Williams Yellowjackets vs. Hamilton Braves
Williams had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-12 to make it five. They lost 30-0 to the Hamilton Braves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-0 on Tuesday.
As for Hamilton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Hamilton's part, Antonio Jauregui made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Jauregui has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hamilton got a massive performance out of Daniel Leal, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Leal has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Matthews, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Williams and Hamilton will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Yellowjackets see the field they'll take on Portola at 1:00 p.m. on May 2. As for Hamilton, their break will end when they face Biggs at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th.
