Baseball Recap: Alden Find Success

Alden let Holland stack five runs on them in the seventh inning on Thursday but luckily Alden prevailed anyway. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Dutchmen 9-8. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 14-13 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matt Waiss and Steven Syracuse did most of the damage at the plate: Waiss went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Syracuse went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Alden is undefeated when Waiss posts two or more runs, but 3-5-1 otherwise. Ryan Kurek was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Alden's victory bumped their record up to 7-5-1. As for Holland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Holland will face off against Eden at 4:40 p.m. on Friday. Alden will be paying especially close attention to the Dutchmen's contest: after the Dutchmen face off against the Raiders, they'll take on Alden again at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
