The Fitchburg Blue Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Maynard Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Fitchburg has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Maynard will arrive with four straight victories.
Fitchburg couldn't beat Leominster on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Blue Raiders lost 20-5 to the Blue Devils.
Ella Kitchin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Maynard put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Tahanto Regional. The Tigers blew past the Stags 9-0. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Jillian Macfarlane made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryleigh Raschi, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Schmidt, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Maynard pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fitchburg, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.
Fitchburg suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Maynard in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
