Basketball Recap: La Plata Takes a Loss

La Plata's game on Monday was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to the Calvert Cavaliers. The Warriors' loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Despite the defeat, La Plata saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aniyah Sisco posted 28 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. That was a full 71.8% of La Plata's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Calvert to victory were Amani Welch and Brooke Kidwell. Welch dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Kidwell dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 boards. Kidwell has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Epidendio, who put up five points and seven boards.

La Plata's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Calvert, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.

La Plata wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-22 defeat against Leonardtown on the 15th. Calvert has also already played their next game (against North Point), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
