Softball Recap: Willcox Extends Winning Streak to Four

Willcox came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Thatcher Eagles. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-13 back in February.

Layla Donahue was a standout: she scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-5. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Nataly Thompson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-5.

Donahue wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Willcox kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. Willcox is 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Willcox pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Thatcher, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6.

Willcox didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 17-0 loss against Heritage Academy on the 21st. As for Thatcher, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-6 defeat against Poston Butte on the 21st.
