The James Monroe Mavericks will face off against the WestSide Renegades at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
James Monroe is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Princeton, who was ranked 19th at the time (James Monroe was ranked 22nd). Kadyn Hines made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for James Monroe: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-2 otherwise. Hines was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Carson Koen was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Cameron Crislip was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
James Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Princeton only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, WestSide posted their closest victory since April 17, 2024 on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Mingo Central 6-5.
The team relied heavily on Hayden Miller, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Kenney, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
The win got James Monroe back to even at 3-3. As for WestSide, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
James Monroe came up short against WestSide in their previous matchup back in March of 2017, falling 6-3. Can James Monroe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
