South Decatur hasn't had much luck against Tri recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cougars will face off against the Titans at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Decatur is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Morristown 13-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Cougars have posted against the Yellow Jackets since May 6, 2021.

Dalilah Martin and Raegan Benge did most of the damage at the plate: Martin got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Benge went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Benge is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Cole, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: South Decatur lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Tri came tearing into Wednesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 6-0 shutout.
Tri let Lyla Williams and Rylan Mathews run wild. Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Mathews went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Tri's victory bumped their record up to 20-5. As for South Decatur, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Decatur hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Tri struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Decatur suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Tri when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
