Basketball Recap: Michelle Ezumah's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lanier over New Manchester

If Lanier was feeling good fresh off their 69-42 takedown of Duluth on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the Longhorns and the New Manchester Jaguar didn't end well, with the Longhorns falling 62-48. The Longhorns were not able to make up for their defeat to the Jaguar from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Lanier lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Michelle Ezumah, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Ezumah is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Johnson, who posted 18 points.

New Manchester's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devin Furgess led the charge by shooting 52% from the field to rack up 27 points. The last time Furgess' shooting accuracy was this high was back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Hill, who put up six points and 11 steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Lanier fell to 2-1. As for New Manchester, their record now sits at 3-1.

Coming up, Lanier will welcome Roswell at 6:00 p.m. on December 2. The matchup will give the Longhorns their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for New Manchester, they have already played their next game, a 48-30 win against Collins Hill on the 25th.
