South Ripley and Switzerland County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Raiders will face off against the Pacers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Ripley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
South Ripley took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Shawe Memorial. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Trevor Castner was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
South Ripley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Switzerland County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 4-1 to South Dearborn.
Switzerland County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roman Hite, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Switzerland County's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for South Ripley, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Ripley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Switzerland County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Ripley might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Switzerland County in their previous meeting on May 6th. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
