Softball Recap: Awaken Christian Starts off Right with Win over Indian Springs

Awaken Christian gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They blew past the Indian Springs Thunderbirds 13-3. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 23-6 win the Thunderbirds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2018.

Sydney Husted made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Husted was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kaylee Rasmussen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Natalie Campbell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Awaken Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indian Springs only posted an OBP of .381.

Indian Springs now has a losing record of 2-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Awaken Christian beat Indian Springs by a score of 20-14 later that day.
