Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Neuqua Valley

While Neuqua Valley's victory against Benet Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Redwings on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won five contests in a row.

Ava Drehs looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 25 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Krista Waldusky, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cora Dickson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Neuqua Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-14. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Benet Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-17 record this season.

Neuqua Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Benet Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Batavia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
