Softball Recap: Wayzata Wins Going Away Against Moorhead

Wayzata was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against the Moorhead Spuds as they made off with an 8-2 win.

Ella Goodnature was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Nelson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Maddie Klein was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Wayzata now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Moorhead, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Coincidentally, Wayzata and Moorhead will both be playing St. Michael-Albertville the next time they take the field. The Spuds will host the Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Trojans will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
