Basketball Game Preview: Springfield Senators vs. Mt. Zion Braves

Having just played yesterday, the Springfield Senators will head out on the road to face off against the Mt. Zion Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

On Wednesday, Springfield didn't have too much trouble with Champaign Central as they won 60-41.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mt. Zion's strategy against Charleston on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mt. Zion blew Charleston out of the water with a 55-16 final score. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Trojans are ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springfield pushed their record up to 9-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Mt. Zion, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-11.

Springfield strolled past Mt. Zion in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 51-37. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mt.
