Softball Recap: Walnut Grove Wins Going Away Against Coppell

Walnut Grove was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Coppell on Monday. The Walnut Grove Wildcats were the clear victor by an 18-7 margin over the Coppell Cowboys. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Lyndsey Hooker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. What's more, she also posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Walnut Grove let Lauren Robinson and Kailee James loose on the outfield. Robinson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while James went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. What's more, James also posted three hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Ella Berlage was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Walnut Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Walnut Grove's record now sits at 4-2. As for Coppell, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Walnut Grove and Coppell's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Walnut Grove will square off against Midway at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, a team that's only allowed 1.5 runs per game. Walnut Grove's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Coppell's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Meanwhile, Coppell and Lone Star (who has only given up three runs per game) will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
