Huntingdon has won ten straight games at home (dating back to last season), while East Robertson has won ten straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Mustangs will host the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Huntingdon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Lewis County 49-22. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Panthers are ranked 99th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Huntingdon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenton Smith out in front who threw for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns. K'Shun Carter helped Smith out on the ground, rushing for 50 yards and one score.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Huntingdon proved: they limited Lewis County to a paltry three yards per carry. The team can thank Gavin Gray for the heroic effort on defense: he. Huntingdon didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.7.
Huntingdon's defense didn't let Kolt Skelton, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Owen King was especially locked on to Lewis County's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Panthers' side was Broox Bennett, who picked up a sack and made 15 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, East Robertson's offense rose to the challenge against a Golden Tide defense that boasted an average of only 14.92 points allowed on Friday. The Indians were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over Peabody.
A big part of East Robertson's win came down to the chemistry between Kason Young and his top target Cade Brooks. Young rushed for 64 yards and one TD on only nine carries while Brooks rushed for 47 yards.
East Robertson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zayviyan Groves and Kris Groves. Kris got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
East Robertson's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Huntingdon, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Huntingdon has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 237.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like East Robertson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 198.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
