Basketball Game Preview: Green Tech Eagles vs. Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets

The Green Tech Eagles will face off against the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Last Sunday, Green Tech was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-52 to Notre Dame. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 51st in New York, while the Green Knights are ranked first in Connecticut).

Meanwhile, Rush-Henrietta put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They ended the year with a bang, routing Colonie Central 71-50. The Royal Comets pushed the score to 56-34 by the end of the third, a deficit the Raiders cut but never quite recovered from.

Green Tech better focus on containing Avery Council and Jalen Taggart as the pair were huge in Rush-Henrietta's win. Council went 12 of 19 en route to 29 points along with five boards and three steals, while Taggart went 7 of 13 on his way to 27 points and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Taggart has scored at least a third of Rush-Henrietta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahquin Brown, who posted four points in addition to eight assists, eight boards, and five steals.

Rush-Henrietta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Rush-Henrietta's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Green Tech, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
