Baseball Recap: Mira Mesa Comes Up Short

Mira Mesa lost against Cathedral Catholic back in May of 2016, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Marauders fell just short of the Dons by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Marauders have lost by just one run.

Dylan Pham was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Mira Mesa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathaniel Widelski, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Mira Mesa dropped their record down to 6-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Cathedral Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mira Mesa will be taking part in a tournament against Bonita Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Marauders are facing the Barons at the right time seeing as the Barons are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cathedral Catholic, they will venture away from home to face off against Grossmont at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
