Basketball Recap: Paul VI Beats Eastside for Their Eighth Straight Victory

Paul VI won the last time they faced Eastside and things went their way on Thursday too. The Paul VI Eagles took down the Eastside Tigers 65-46. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Tigers are ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Eastside lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Elijah Satchell, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Satchell is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Tyrone Washam was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine assists.

The victory (which was Paul VI's eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.9 points per game. As for Eastside, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

When Paul VI and Eastside next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Paul VI will try to stop Rutgers Prep's five-game winning streak when the meet on Saturday. Meanwhile, Eastside will take on Elizabeth and their three-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
