The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers will venture away from home to square off against the Foundation Academy Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Berkeley Prep's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Foundation Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Berkeley Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Horizon, taking the game 7-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Buccaneers.
Avery Powers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ella Malin was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Holland Poe, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Foundation Academy earned a 5-2 win over Ocoee on Friday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Riley Winters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only three hits, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Elizabeth Ozim and Kamryn Arico did most of the damage at the plate: Ozim scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Arico scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Foundation Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ocoee only managed one hit.
Berkeley Prep's record now sits at 3-1. As for Foundation Academy, their record now sits at an identical 3-1.
