Softball Game Preview: Abington Heights Comets vs. Scranton Knights

Abington Heights is a perfect 10-0 against Scranton since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Comets will challenge the Knights at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Abington Heights has five straight wins, Scranton has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Abington Heights is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Pennsylvania's top teams: North Pocono, who was ranked ninth at the time (Abington Heights was ranked 20th). The Comets narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Trojans 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Comets have posted since March 29th.

Laurenp Stalica made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Adrianna Condrad was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Hunter Kresge was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Abington Heights hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Scranton lost 16-1 to West Scranton on Tuesday.

Abington Heights' record now sits at 7-1-1. As for Scranton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Abington Heights took their victory against Scranton in their previous meeting on April 2nd by a conclusive 15-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
