Baseball Recap: Cathedral Takes a Loss

Cathedral blew Zionsville out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Zionsville got their revenge. The Fighting Irish fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 7-5. It was the first time this season that the Fighting Irish let down their fans at home.

Cathedral got a good showing from Junior Belford, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Connor Christiansen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Bennett, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Cathedral suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 6-2. As for Zionsville, their record is now 3-4.

Looking ahead, Cathedral will face off against Westfield at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Irish 3, the Shamrocks 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Zionsville, they will welcome Hamilton Southeastern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Royals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
