Baseball Recap: Whitney Young Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Whitney Young hadn't done well against Von Steuben recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Dolphins walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Panthers. This was a revenge game for the Dolphins: when they faced off against the Panthers on Monday, they had to take a 4-2 loss.

Isaac Stoelinga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Whitney Young is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-14 otherwise. Stoelinga was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Stoelinga wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kingsley Evans, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Evans has posted over his last 14 matchups. Another was Tristan Merrill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Whitney Young kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Von Steuben only managed four hits.

Whitney Young's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-15. As for Von Steuben, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-12-2.

Whitney Young and Von Steuben could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Dolphins will challenge Richards at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (277 vs. 73). Meanwhile, Von Steuben (ranked 301st) will meet Chicago Hope Academy (ranked 79th) at 11:00 a.m. on the 17th.
