Softball Recap: Terre Haute South Vigo Takes a Loss

Terre Haute South Vigo extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sullivan Golden Arrows. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Braves of the 2-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Marcia Parker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Lakyn Hadley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Sullivan, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games.

On Sullivan's side, Mylee Vandevender spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. Vandevender has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaylynn Hobbs, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Eslinger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Terre Haute South Vigo didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 loss against Evansville Reitz on the 19th. Sullivan has also already played their next game (against Washington), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
