Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies
Mt. Vernon had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against the Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Johnnies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
The final score came out to 25-12, 25-6, 25-18.
Mt. Vernon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Callie Swanson, who had 12 assists and nine digs.
Johnstown-Monroe had a senior duo take command as Luciana Smith had 26 digs and five aces and Ava Ruffle had 15 digs and three aces. Ruffle is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
Mt. Vernon has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Licking Valley on the 21st. As for Johnstown-Monroe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Heath on the 21st.
