Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies

Mt. Vernon had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 3-0 to the Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Johnnies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-6, 25-18.

Mae Wiley paced Mt. Vernon's offense, picking up six kills. Wiley got some help from Callie Swanson and her 12 assists. Finally, Evie Creech kept Mt. Vernon's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Johnstown-Monroe was led to victory by Luciana Smith and Ava Ruffle. Smith had 26 digs and five aces, while Ruffle had 15 digs and three aces. That's the most digs Smith has posted since back in October of 2024.

Mt. Vernon has already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Licking Valley on the 21st. As for Johnstown-Monroe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against Heath on the 21st.
