Basketball Recap: Indian River Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

Indian River came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 49-39 win over the Carthage Comets. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Comets are ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Indian River to victory were Allison LaMora and Layla Whyte. LaMora almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds, while Whyte posted 13 points along with six boards and four steals. LaMora has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 16 times she's played. Keera LaLonde was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Indian River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 40 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Indian River's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Carthage, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
