Basketball Game Preview: Fivay Falcons vs. Sunlake Seahawks

The Fivay Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Sunlake Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fivay is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66 points per game this season.

Fivay is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Hudson: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Fivay blew Hudson out of the water with a 64-31 final score. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 33 points or more this season.

Dominick Walsh and Odell Brown were among the main playmakers for Fivay as the former almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Walsh is becoming a predictor of Fivay's success: when he posts at least ten assists the team is 8-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Joell Morales, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Fivay was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Sunlake entered their matchup against Gaither on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Sunlake lost to Gaither at home by a 79-65 margin. The Seahawks were down 62-40 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Fivay's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Sunlake, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4.

Fivay lost to Sunlake on the road by a decisive 63-47 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Fivay avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
