Softball Game Preview: Monticello Mustangs vs. Turner Ashby Knights

The Monticello Mustangs will head out to square off against the Turner Ashby Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Monticello 1.2, Turner Ashby 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Monticello is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Brookville a 1-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Turner Ashby waltzed into their match on Friday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They didn't even let the Eagles on the board, marking their second-straight 12-0 shutout. Considering the Knights have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Turner Ashby pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Monticello, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.

Monticello couldn't quite get it done against Turner Ashby when the teams last played back in May of 2018 as they fell 7-4. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
