League recap: Oakland extends winning streak with victory over Brentwood

AAA District 7 recap October 1, 2013

Oakland extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 7 this week by beating Brentwood, 38-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Stewarts Creek scaled the state rankings by moving to 241 from 288 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Stewarts Creek was able to move up by defeating Summit 52-28.

Smyrna's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Matt Rodell threw for 165 yards and Ladarius Turner had 55 yards receiving. On the ground Ladarius Summers chipped in 205 yards.

Summers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bulldogs beat Sycamore. Summers' favorite target this week was Turner, who caught 3 passes for 55 yards.

Turner was the best receiver in the league this week as Smyrna defeated the War Eagles.

Smyrna's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Rodell has thrown for 748 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Darrel Harelson has 9 catches for 227 yards.

A big matchup in AAA District 7 this week will be when Blackman takes on LaVergne. The Blaze are in second place, while the Wolverines are in fifth place.

David Martin's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,022 from 11,442. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 52-28 victory over the Spartans last week.
