Softball Recap: Morgan Takes Down Providence Hall in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Morgan had no trouble coming through when it counted. They skirted past the Providence Hall Patriots 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Trojans sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Eva Birkeland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lexi Hardman, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Wardell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Morgan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

Morgan's win bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Providence Hall, they moved to 15-9 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coming up, Morgan will take on Union at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
