Basketball Recap: Louie Gutierrez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead IDEA Weslaco Pike over Raymondville

IDEA Weslaco Pike was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Raymondville Bearkats. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-25 back in December of 2024.

IDEA Weslaco Pike's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Louie Gutierrez, who posted nine points and six assists. That's the most assists Gutierrez has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Seth Gutierrez, who went 5 of 6 en route to 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Raymondville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Colt Cavazos, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Cavazos has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Carson Tamez was another key player, going 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points.

IDEA Weslaco Pike's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Raymondville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-7.

IDEA Weslaco Pike wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 49-47 loss against IDEA Sports Park on the 17th. Raymondville has also already played their next game, a 90-43 victory against IDEA Frontier College Prep on the 17th.
