Aquinas and Luther squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Aquinas had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2. The Blugolds' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Aquinas took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 16-14.
Sammy Davis paced Aquinas' offense, picking up 31 kills. Davis got some help from Adelaide Bezemek and her 53 assists. Davis was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Luther's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Hackbarth led the charge by getting 11 digs. That's the most digs Hackbarth has posted since back in September.
Aquinas' loss dropped their record down to 16-15. As for Luther, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-10.
Aquinas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Luther, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Marshall on the 1st.
