Preview: Grundy County Panthers vs. Meadville Eagles
Grundy County has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Meadville Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grundy County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Meadville is ranked 57th).
Last Tuesday, Grundy County came up short against Winston and fell 51-44.
Meanwhile, Meadville put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 81-45 victory over Green City at home. Meadville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 22 contests by 23 points or more this season.
Meadville can attribute much of their success to Madison Carvajal, who scored 31 points along with six steals and five assists, and Korrie Holcer, who went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 6 assists. Holcer is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Carvajal, who scored five points along with five steals.
Grundy County's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Meadville, they pushed their record up to 24-0 with that win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.
Grundy County was dealt a bruising 61-30 defeat at the hands of Meadville in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Grundy County was down 37-10.
