Basketball Recap: Marcos de Niza Padres vs. Saguaro Sabercats

The Marcos de Niza Padres's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their ninth straight defeat. They were beaten by Saguaro 75-37. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Marcos de Niza of the 67-39 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Myrie Drew and James Steward certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Drew scored seven points along with five rebounds and four blocks, while Steward scored ten points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Drew, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.

Marcos de Niza struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Saguaro found their leader in underclassman Justice Hinds, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Hinds hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. Nashoba Redhouse was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.

Marcos de Niza has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Saguaro, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marcos de Niza will take on the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mesquite has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,206 points over their last 18 matches. As for Saguaro, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Lake Havasu is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home.
