Baseball Recap: Marshall Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Marshall won against Charleston on Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Lions beat the Arthur-Okaw Christian Conquering Riders by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-6. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 win the Conquering Riders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Dominic Huisinga was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Marshall's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Payton McGuire was excellent, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tucker Osborn, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Marshall is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Arthur-Okaw Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshall will head out to take on Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Arthur-Okaw Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Rantoul at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
