Softball Recap: Excelsior Charter Drops Highest Score of Season Against Academy of Careers & Exploration

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Excelsior Charter). They were the clear victor by a 26-7 margin over the Academy of Careers & Exploration Eagle on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Alany Esparza was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Samantha Minghelli was another key player, scoring four runs while going 4-for-4.

Excelsior Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Excelsior Charter has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. Academy of Careers & Exploration's loss dropped their record down to 5-5-1.

The future could be bright for both Excelsior Charter and Academy of Careers & Exploration: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Excelsior Charter will try to hand Granite Hills their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Academy of Careers & Exploration will look to extend Victor Valley's six-game losing streak when they meet at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
