Basketball Recap: Marathon Extends Winning Streak to Four

With a playoff win on the line, Marathon rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 58-50 win over the Moore Haven Terriers. The victory was familiar territory for the Dolphins who have now won four contests in a row.

Leading Marathon to victory were Daysi Williams and Marti'Yana Kilbourn. Williams dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards, while Kilbourn went 8 of 14 to rack up 17 points in addition to eight steals and seven rebounds. Kilbourn has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Eubank, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 assists.

Marathon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Several Terriers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Preslynn Baker, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards. That was a full 38% of Moore Haven's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Carlee Osceola, who put up six points.

Marathon's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Moore Haven, their loss dropped their record down to 15-4.

Coming up, Marathon will challenge Wildwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wildwood will roll in looking for their 21st straight victory, something Marathon surely won't give up without a fight. Moore Haven does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
