Softball Game Preview: Avon Grove Red Devils vs. Downingtown East Cougars

The Avon Grove Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Downingtown East Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Avon Grove's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Henderson as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.

Downingtown East came out on top against East on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Cougars put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 6-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Sam Wendig made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Wendig was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, London Schaefer was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Georgia Mahon was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Avon Grove's record now sits at 11-1. As for Downingtown East, their record is now 8-5.

Avon Grove skirted past Downingtown East 5-3 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
