Football Recap: Memphis East Takes a Loss

Friday just wasn't the day for Memphis East's offense. They had to suffer through a 64-0 loss at the hands of the Melrose Golden Wildcats. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Golden Wildcats: they've now lost seven in a row.

Melrose's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Heffner, who threw for 262 yards and six TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 49 yards and one score. Those six passing touchdowns gave Heffner a new career-high. Melrose's leading receiver Carlos Edwards was Heffner's top target yet again, picking up 79 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Memphis East's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Melrose, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1.

Memphis East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Melrose, they will square off against Bolivar Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
