Judge Memorial Catholic is 0-4 against Juan Diego Catholic since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. While Judge Memorial Catholic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Ben Lomond 8-7. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.
Will Glenn looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
On the hitting side, Dominic Fassio was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also brought in three RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Ibarra, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Judge Memorial Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Juan Diego Catholic came up short against Lehi on Wednesday, falling 18-5. The Soaring Eagle have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Castle Huggard was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Judge Memorial Catholic's record is now 4-1. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Judge Memorial Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Juan Diego Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Judge Memorial Catholic might still be hurting after the 22-1 loss they got from Juan Diego Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can Judge Memorial Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
