Basketball Game Preview: Curlew Cougars vs. Pateros Billygoats/Nannies

The Curlew Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Pateros Billygoats/Nannies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Curlew took on Republic on Wednesday. Curlew came out on top against Republic by a score of 43-32.

Curlew's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellie Calhoun led the charge by putting up eight points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Melissa Bineau, who posted two points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.

Meanwhile, Pateros earned a 47-34 win over Liberty Bell on Thursday. Given the Billygoats/Nannies' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Curlew's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Pateros, they have also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Curlew didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Pateros in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 42-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Curlew since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
