Baseball Recap: Del Mar Takes a Loss

Del Mar extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-10. They came up short against the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals, falling 14-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Dons have suffered since April 8th.

Ryan Avery was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Del Mar is 4-1 when Avery posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise.

As for Mt. Pleasant, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Considering they have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Mt. Pleasant's side, Isaiah Arroyo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Arroyo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Del Mar is set to square off against their familiar foe Yerba Buena at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant will face off against rival San Jose at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
