Basketball Recap: Laurel Takes a Loss

Laurel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Flowers Jaguars and fell 76-12. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Jaguars are ranked 29th).

Flowers found their leader in sophomore Ava Redmond, who went 13-for-27 on her way to 30 points. Those 30 points gave Redmond a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyla Graham, who posted seven points in addition to eight assists and five steals.

Laurel's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Flowers, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 15-2.

Coming up, Laurel and Bowie will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. As for Flowers, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Eleanor Roosevelt at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Flowers' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 contests.
