Basketball Recap: Belleville West Drops Season-High Score on East St. Louis

It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Belleville West ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past the East St. Louis Flyers with an 81-76 win. The Maroons' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Several Flyers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in assists (five). Montreal Stacker was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 21 points and nine assists.

The victory got Belleville West back to even at 13-13. As for East St. Louis, their loss dropped their record down to 13-15.

Belleville West and East St. Louis could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Belleville West will take on Alton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 125 places (151 vs. 26). Similarly, East St. Louis (ranked 147th) will meet Edwardsville (ranked 12th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
