Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Yaya Gibson and Aaliyah Shawnee Lead Glenpool to Victory

Glenpool won the last time they faced Pawhuska and things went their way on Friday too. The Glenpool Warriors walked away with a 68-57 win over the Pawhuska Huskies.

Glenpool was led to victory by Aaliyah Shawnee and Yaya Gibson. Shawnee went 8 of 14 on her way to 23 points, while Gibson went 7 for 14 on her way to 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shawnee has scored at least a third of Glenpool's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyra Mckinnie, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Glenpool was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Pawhuska had strong showings from Brooklyn Miles, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 23 points along with seven boards and three steals, and Hannah Reynolds, who posted 22 points and eight rebounds. Miles is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season.

Glenpool's record now sits at 8-5. As for Pawhuska, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.

Glenpool and Pawhuska should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. Glenpool (ranked 55th) will meet Stilwell (ranked 438th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Glenpool is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.8 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Pawhuska (ranked 50th) will meet Barnsdall (ranked 248th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
