Basketball Recap: Ami Cueto's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Johnson over Chavez

Johnson was the 57-56 winner over Chavez when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Johnson Warriors fell 41-29 to the Chavez Titans on Friday. The matchup marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ami Cueto, who posted nine points and four steals. Cueto has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.

Johnson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Chavez, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-11.

Johnson and Chavez could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Johnson (ranked 974th) will meet Vista del Lago (ranked 325th) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Chavez (ranked 838th) will meet West (ranked 166th) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
