Basketball Recap: Rakin Showki and Barry Morrissette Secure Win for Sammamish

Sammamish won against North Creek last Tuesday with 74 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Sammamish RedHawks took down the Highline Pirates 74-57. Given the RedHawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Pirates are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Sammamish to victory were Barry Morrissette and Rakin Showki. Morrissette went 9 of 16 on his way to 18 points and seven boards, while Showki dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 assists. The game was Morrissette's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Boddie, who went 6 for 12 en route to 14 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Sammamish was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highline only racked up three assists.

Despite the loss, Highline had strong showings from Jai'Lyn Chavers, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 22 points, and Corey Crosby, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Crosby has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more boards the last 19 times he's played. Zayne Cola was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Sammamish is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Highline, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.

When Sammamish and Highline next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Sammamish will try to stop Lake Washington's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Highline will take on Inglemoor and their three-game winning streak at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
