League recap: Laird races to league-leading run for Mission Prep

Mission Prep's Patrick Laird rumbled for the longest rushing play in Freelance this season in his game against St. Monica last week. Laird's team topped the Mariners as he sprinted for 66 yards on the play and finished with 258 in all.

Mission Prep was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Chad Henry's team vanquished St. Monica 24-6 earlier in the week.

Rex Rover put up the best numbers through the air as Xavier Prep fell to Notre Dame. He finished with a total of 18 completions for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns. Rover's favorite target this week was Jake Ashton, who caught 6 passes for 87 yards.

Laird was the most successful running back in the league this week. Jack Balentine also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.

Jordan Cardenas provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Firebaugh beat Rosamond. He completed 8 passes for 281 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 8 yards. Cardenas' key target this week was Thomas Marquez, who caught 2 passes for 110 yards.

Marquez was the best wideout in Freelance this week as the Falcons topped the Roadrunners. Luis Ponce helped Firebaugh's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 100 yards.

He was 18-25 with 0 interception.

Laird was a beast in the backfield as the Royals beat Adam Guerra's team.

The Saints' Rover and Daniel Stabile have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Rover has thrown for 844 yards this season, while Stabile, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 29 catches for 378 yards. Laird from Mission Prep leads the league in rushing with 840 yards.

Xavier Prep moved up to 710 from 752 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Bob Molyet's team climbed the ranks as a result of falling to the Titans 32-28.
